New Music: What Have You Bought After Hearing It on the Show?

dsc040503I love discovering new music, and one of my favorite things about SYTYCD is how many new artists are featured, either in the choreography or with a guest artist (on results shows).  After flipping through my iPod the other day, I realized I have quite a few songs that I bought after first hearing them on the show:

  • “Dancing” - Elisa (used in the Lacey/Kameron contemporary by Mia Michaels)
  • “Bleeding Love” - Leona Lewis (used in the Chelsie/Mark hip-hop by Tabitha & Napoleon)
  • “Hometown Glory” - Adele (used in the Katee/Joshua contemporary by Mia Michaels)
  • “Mercy” - Duffy (used in the Katee/Twitch contemporary by Mia Michaels)

I also already had “Dreaming With a Broken Heart” by John Mayer (used in the Kherington/Twitch contemporary by Mia Michaels) and “Blower’s Daughter” by Damien Rice (used by Travis Wall in his solo during season 2).

What songs have you added to your collection after hearing them on SYTYCD?

  6. I also already had “Why” by Annie Lennox in my ipod - the song used in a beautiful contemp piece with Allison & Ivan in season 2.

  8. I’m almost embarrassed to admit this one - I bought Fergie’s London Bridge after Donyelle Jones (Benji’s partner through the early weeks of the competition in Season 2) and Travis Wall did a Shane Sparks hip hop routine to it. I believe she also performed it live on the show as well.

  12. FYI: “Bleeding Love” was Chelsie and Mark, not “Courtnie/Mark”.

    Still get teary when I hear that song, so moved by their emotions in their dance. And yes, it’s on my iPod. Also have Charlotte Martin’s “The Dance” from Season 4’s group dance.

  16. most of the songs I’ve gotten have been mentioned above, but another of my choices is Ramalama Bang Bang by Roisin Murphy. This was the song for a kick ass piece by Wade Robson (not that he every does anything less than amazing) in season 2 - where everyone was kind of like zombies. It is still one of my favorite pieces ever

  18. Oooh, good one!! That was a show-stopper. Anything Wade does/did was so unforgettable. I really missed him last year and I hope he comes back for a bit of choreography in seasons 5/6!!

  20. Elisa’s song Dancing was absolutely one of my favorites. I also love Bleeding Love and think of SYTYCD every time I hear it now. Ok, so I’m just a little bit in love with the show.
